Mary Kay Sales Director
Celebrating 23 + years of serving customers, equipping Consultants, and making dreams come true!

My Story...

I started my Mary Kay Career in May 2002 thanks to my friend Anne. She was a brand new Consultant. If I’m honest, she mailed me samples I never tried. But during a weekend visit to her home in North Carolina, she convinced me to have a facial and “give my honest opinion of how Mary Kay products compared to what I was currently using.” I’d been buying department store brands since high school. So imagine my surprise when I fell in love with the Mary Kay products immediately. Mary Kay was far better quality and a far better value than what I’d been buying at the mall. And as she walked me through how to use the Mary Kay skincare while reading from her flip chart, I remember thinking “if Anne learned to do this, I know I could, too!”

Why I chose Mary Kay:

My now-husband Jon and I were newly engaged, had just bought a fixer-upper house in Virginia Beach, and had no money to fix it up with! I had a full-time job, but I’d been thinking about what I could do to earn some extra money on the side. When I found out Mary Kay Consultants earn 50% commission on everything they sell starting day one with no quotas or territories, I knew I’d found the opportunity I’d been praying for.

A little background:

My college degree is in Broadcast Journalism, and after graduating from the University of Mississippi, I spent more than a decade in television news as a reporter and anchor. I was working 60-80 hours a week, putting my personal life on the back burner to focus on my career. I moved ten times in ten years, had no free time, few meaningful friendships, and was exhausted. I wanted better hours (anchoring the morning and noon shows meant I worked 2:30am to 1pm) and more flexibility, so I left my TV career for a job in fundraising, hoping it was the change I needed. Quickly, I discovered I’d left one burnout career for another. Maybe you can relate.

What shifted thanks to Mary Kay:

Within 8 months of signing my Consultant agreement and ordering my Starter Kit, I was making the same income part-time in Mary Kay that I was earning at my full-time job. So I took a leap of faith and left corporate America to make Mary Kay my career. I’d made so many friends in such a short time, was thriving on the personal growth and mentorship, and finally had the work/life balance I’d never known before. 4 months after making Mary Kay my career, I became a Sales Director and earned my first Career Car. That was in 2003, and I’ve been driving free ever since. Can you imagine what not having a car payment for two decades will do for your finances? My first year as a Director, I matched my previous job salary, was named the #1 new Director in our division of the company, and led our Mary Kay unit to $350,000 in retail sales. And thanks to the time and income my business provided, Jon and I were able to adopt our son, travel to be present for his birth, and buy our second home shortly after. Grayson has never known anything but a work-from-home mom. Jon also works from home and our family is very close. We love to travel and spend two weeks a year at our lake home in Vermont. Being able to work from anywhere as a mobile entrepreneur is truly a gift!

Mary Kay’s mission and my vision:

Our company mission is simple: Enrich Women’s Lives. I live that out through my business by helping women look and feel like the most confident version of themselves. I believe who God made us on the inside is all that matters. But in a world driven by social media and influencer culture, women are constantly in comparison mode. And If a woman looks in the mirror and doesn’t love what she sees on the outside, she may never look inside to see her God-given talents and abilities. I’m determined to change that. My vision is that one day, all women will know their true worth, write their own success story instead of working to help build someone else’s, and embrace entrepreneurship as a means to make dreams come true and pass that gift on to others.
